The archive and documentation center of Aegis trust offers internships opportunities for the lengths of three to six months in the following fields:

  1. Archive & Collection
  2. Media Production

Interns will contribute to the development of the Genocide Archive of Rwanda and other projects.

Duties and Responsibilities for Archive & Collection Interns:

  • Assist in expanding the Genocide Archive of Rwanda collections, that  include audio-visual testimonies, documents and publications, photographs, maps, cassettes, cds, and physical objects. Interns will reach out to existing and potential partners, survivors, and other relevant  to obtain new materials and help to identify new sources of materials.
  • Assist in the digitisation of collected materials (particularly of documents and publications), in the indexing, cataloguing and storing of collected materials, and in updating the archive’s central inventory so that all new content is properly organised and preserved to be made accessible on the archive’s website.
  • Undertake periodic research and analysis of the archive’s existing collection to assist the collections team in preparing reports and in identifying gaps in the collection.
  • Help to maintain the archive’s public library of books and films.
  • Develop content for social media sites and the archive’s blog.
  • Assist in training others and updating the archive’s guidelines as needed regarding collections procedures, digitisation, and content management.

Although the archival intern’s role will be aligned primarily with the above-mentioned tasks, interns need to be flexible and open to being delegated to different areas/projects in cases where more support is needed.

Duties and Responsibilities for Film & Digital Media Interns:

  • Assist in expanding the archive’s collection, which includes audio-visual testimonies, documents and publications, photographs, maps, and physical objects. Interns will reach out to existing partners (e.g. the National Archives of Rwanda and the University of Rwanda), survivors, and others to obtain new materials and help to identify new sources of materials.
  • Assist in conducting video interviews – with survivors, perpetrators and others who were involved in or affected by the genocide, and who have volunteered to tell their story. Post-production, interns will help in the downloading and digitisation of collected media, in cataloguing and indexing, and in transcribing, translating and improving the media.
  • Assist in the design and production of educational films about the history of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
  • Develop and manage content for social media sites and the archive’s blog.
  • Assist in photography and filming.
  • Assist in training others and updating the archive’s guidelines as needed regarding the use of production equipment, software, and video interview procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining all the archive equipment.

Although the archival intern’s role will be aligned primarily with the above-mentioned tasks, interns need to be flexible and open to being delegated to different areas/projects in cases where more support is needed.

Schedule:

Work hours are generally 8am - 5pm, Monday to Friday. However, in this role interns must be prepared to work early mornings (for travel) or work late in the evenings and possibly work on weekends.

Visa Requirements:

For applying international interns, different visa requirements will have to be met. Please check with us and with your particular government website on entry visas and work visas during your stay in Rwanda. We are happy to help and assist during the process if needed.
