Genocide Archive of Rwanda represented at Transform Africa Summit

The world's largest digital collection of information and data related to the Genocide against the Tutsi, the Genocide Archive of Rwanda, will be represented at the 2015 Transform Africa Summit held in Kigali from 19-21 October.

The Genocide Archive of Rwanda will join exhibitors from across Rwanda and around the world to share its work preserving the memory of the Genocide. The archive's newly launched online platform is the best way for Rwandans and the international community to learn about the causes, implementation and consequences of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The online collection also serves as a tool for learning, research, fighting genocide denial and promoting peace and reconciliation in Rwanda and abroad.

The archive's digital platform is a unique resource, enabling students, researchers, policy makers and justice institutions to access fully searchable primary source data including hundreds of testimonies, historical photos, videos, documents, audio files and artefacts. In total, the archive currently contains over 8,000 items related to the Genocide against the Tutsi. The process of collecting, digitising and archiving information is ongoing and the goal is to create the most comprehensive and widely used resource for understanding the Genocide.

At the summit, the archive team will present their ongoing partnership with the Kigali Genocide Memorial and encourage participants to become ambassadors for humanity in their own communities by supporting the work of the archive and the memorial. The team will also give live demonstrations of the functionalities of the digital archive and share how it is helping to educate people the world over.

To meet the Genocide Archive of Rwanda team, visit Kivu Hall where the international ICT exhibition is taking place. Participants wishing to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial can book at www.kgm.rw/visit. The memorial will provide transport for any guests who require it.

Transform Africa brings together over 2,500 participants including Heads of State from Smart Africa member countries, members of the UN Broadband Commission on Digital Innovation, leading academics, policy makers, and CEOs of global technology companies. Chaired by President Paul Kagame, the summit will feature a number of key events: Leaders’ Summit, Smart Africa Conference, High-level policy dialogue, Smart Africa board and Steering Committee Meetings, YouthConnekt Africa, and an International ICT Exhibition.

The summit is co-organised by the Government of Rwanda and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), with the support of the World Bank. To learn more about the summit, visit www.transformafrica2015.org
